Each year, the World Energy Congress hosts the World Energy Leaders' Summits, the premier gatherings for government ministers and CEOs of major energy companies. Future EnergyLeaders' Congress

Every three years, the Future Energy Leaders’ annual gathering coincides with the World Energy Congress. World EnergyCongress History

The origins of the World Energy Congress date back to shortly after the First World War, when visionary Scotsman Daniel Dunlop decided to bring together leading energy experts to discuss current and emerging energy issues. Hosted every three years in cities all over the world, the World Energy Congress has since become a highly prestigious platform for the global enegy community.

24th World Energy Congress:Abu Dhabi

At the 24th World Energy Congress - held from 9-12 September 2019 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates - over 18,000 attendees from 146 countries gathered in Abu Dhabi to discuss the future of the energy transition under the theme of Energy for Prosperity.

As the first World Energy Congress to be hosted by a Middle Eastern country, the 24th edition represented a significant milestone. Not only is the region a major energy player, it is also undergoing critical transition efforts to sustainable energy

Past Congresses

For almost a century, the World Energy Congress has provided a unique space for the global energy community to catalyse new cooperations and forge new pathways in the energy transition

Under the theme of “Embracing New Frontiers”, the 23rd World Energy Congress 23rd World Energy Congress was held in Istanbul, Turkey from 9 –13 October 2016. Co-hosted by the President of Turkey and the World Energy Council, the event welcomed 10,000 delegates from across the energy spectrum to address critical developments in the energy sector.

The 23rd World Energy Congress took place at a moment of critical transition in the energy industry and in a world of extraordinary change.

The 22nd World Energy Congress was held in Daegu, Korea (Rep. of) from 13-17 October 2013. The theme of the Congress was “Securing Tomorrow’s Energy Today.” The Congress in Daegu attracted over 7,500 delegates from 123 countries and included more than 50 government ministers.

The theme of the Montreal Congress “Acting now on global challenges – Energy in transition for a living planet” reflected the undeniable sense of urgency that faced the world’s energy sector. The Congress in Montreal in 2010 attracted over 7,000 delegates from 140 countries and included more than 60 government ministers.
