Patrons & Innovation Partners

Patrons & Innovation Partners of the World Energy Council are a select group of leading energy companies who work closely with the Council to help achieve its mission to promote the sustainable supply and use of energy, for the greatest benefit of all. Patrons & Innovation Partners have direct exposure to, and engage with, our global, multi-stakeholder network of 3,000 organisations in more than 90 countries. Patrons & Innovation Partners represent the leading voice of the industry and take a prominent role in catalysing new thinking on energy policy and strategy through our most prominent events and work programmes.

  • World Energy Congress: Patrons & Innovation Partners take a leading role in the largest and most influential energy event, covering all aspects of the energy agenda.
  • World Energy Leaders’ Summits (WELS): Patrons & Innovation Partners have complimentary access and networking support in private meetings, to our WELS meeting which are co-hosted with the energy minister of the host country, in locations of critical interest to the global energy situation.

The California Independent System Operator (ISO) manages the flow of electricity across 26,000 miles of high-voltage power lines that serve 30 million Californians and millions more in our multi-state west-wide real-time market. As a nonprofit, public benefit corporation, the ISO is a recognized world leader in transitioning the grid to one that is flexible and efficient in using zero and low-carbon generation resources. As the nerve center for the western U.S. power grid, the ISO matches electricity buyers and sellers by coordinating over 31,000 market transactions every day that strives to find the lowest cost energy to serve consumer demand. 

The Electricité de France Group (EDF) is an integrated energy company, active in all major electricity businesses: production, transport, distribution, marketing and trade of energy. Principal actor of the French electricity market, EDF is also very active in the United Kingdom and in Italy, making it one of the leading electricians in Europe as well as a recognised player in the gas market. With a power installed of 133.9 GW in the world on December 31st, 2010 for a world production of 630.4 TWh, The Group has, among the big European energetic specialists, the biggest production park and the least emissions of CO2 by kWh produced, thanks to the part of the nuclear and hydraulic power in its production mix. The EDF Group supplies electricity, gas and associated services for more than 37 million customer accounts in the world. In 2010, turn-over was €65.2 million; gross operating profit was €16.6 million and net current result was €4 million.

ENGIE is a global energy player and an expert operator in the three key sectors of electricity, natural gas and energy services. The Global Energy, Utilities and Mining group of PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC) is the professional services leader in the international oil & gas, power & utilities and mining community, advising clients through a global network of fully dedicated specialists.

The Swedish Energy Agency contributes with facts, knowledge, and analysis of supply and use of energy in the society, as well as work towards security of energy supply.

The Agency also funds research on new and renewable energy technologies, smart grids, as well as vehicles and transport fuels of the future. They also support business development that allows commercialisation of energy related innovations, and ensure that promising cleantech solutions can be exported.

Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Incorporated is Japan’s largest power company, supplying energy to the greater Kanto area, including Japan’s two most populous cities, Tokyo and Yokohama. Its 35,000 employees are committed to providing safe, reliable power to its 29 million customers, diversifying energy resources to ensure sustainability, and contributing to economic growth, while fully meeting its responsibilities following the Fukushima Daiichi accident. It transitioned to a holding company in April 2016, with Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Incorporated now having three independent core business companies: TEPCO Fuel & Power, Inc. as a thermal generation company, TEPCO Power Grid, Inc. as a T&D company, and TEPCO Energy Partner, Inc. as a retail company.

SUPPORTERS of council activities

Our Supporter companies are often suppliers or service providers to the energy industry, collaborating with us on activities that accelerate the energy transition to help “move the dial” for an enduring and sustainable transformation of the world’s energy systems.  

Examples of Supporter activities and collaboration include sharing insight on energy infrastructure architecture frameworks and co-development of the world’s leading energy ‘signalling tool’ – the World Energy Issues Monitor. We have bespoke options for businesses looking to strengthen their awareness and impact within specific regions of the world.

We work closely together to co-develop, co-design and co-deliver evidence-based insights, tools and experiences which we can use collaboratively to advance the world’s energy thinking – and deliver genuine business impact for our Supporters and Partners.

We recognise that even with our broad reach and global network of Member Committees and Partner companies, we cannot do everything.  We work with a variety of institutional partners to co-deliver activity which will advance the energy transformation, partner within related sectors, or showcase our mutual activity with a new audiences.

Our collaborations with institutions have seen us take the stage at the Conference of the Parties (COP), moderate leading-edge discussions at the St Petersburg International Economic Foundation (SPIEF) and engage senior governmental leaders at the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and at G20 summits – to name just a few!
