Danielle Tavel is a leader of Market Design policies at the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) where she has worked the past 5 years. After studying electrical engineering with an emphasis in power systems at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and attaining postgraduate education in economics from the Universities of California, Berkeley and Los Angeles, she has been able to leverage her technical background to solve complex energy market and infrastructure policy issues. Her current role with the CAISO is focused on managing policy initiatives through strategic partnerships with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet the needs of energy consumers and state and federal energy policy objectives. She aspires to be known as an inclusive and motivating leader that promotes collaboration and innovation to solve the challenges of the rapidly evolving energy industry.
The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) manages the flow of electricity across high-voltage, long-distance power lines serving over 32 million Californians and millions more in the multi-state wide competitive wholesale power market. As a nonprofit, public benefit corporation, the CAISO is a recognized world leader in transitioning the grid to one that is flexible and efficient in using zero and low-carbon generation resources. The CAISO matches electricity buyers and sellers, facilitating over 31,000 market transactions every day to ensure enough power is on hand to meet consumer demand.
